Is Samurai Glowing Katana Live Wallpaper safe?
Samurai Glowing Katana Live Wallpaper is a Chrome new-tab extension that shows an animated samurai wallpaper and adds a popup, side panel, and weather display. It declares no Chrome permissions and no host permissions. The network code it does contain calls api.gameograf.com and gameograf.com, the publisher's own service, along with youtube.com, www.blogger.com, and chat.openai.com for media or an AI side panel. With no host permissions, the extension cannot read or change pages you visit on its own.
The finding that sounds most serious is a set of network fetches in js/background.js at lines 63, 82, and 96, plus js/popup.js at line 39, js/sidePanel.js at line 362, and js/weather.js at line 49. If those calls went to an unknown collector, that would matter. Here the named endpoints are the publisher's API, well-known media sites, and a public AI service. The other large group of alerts comes from strings like 0i.gn, ao.it, bg.mp, ke.td and sidepanel.open, which are malformed domain fragments or property names, not live servers.
The scanner also raises 43 code-smell items, which are generic JavaScript patterns that appear in ordinary UI code. No malware signature, obfuscated payload, or tool-poisoning pattern turned up. That combination is why the alerts look like scanner noise around a small wallpaper extension rather than evidence of data theft or browser hijacking.

Limited evidencePublisher identity, store signals, distribution reach, and warning signals used for context. Treat this as supporting evidence, not a clean bill of health.
Chrome does not expose the same publisher verification data as IDE stores, so this score is deliberately conservative.

Samurai Glowing Katana Live Wallpaper is a new-tab wallpaper extension from a developer address at gameograf.com. The manifest declares no permissions and no host permissions, which limits what the extension can reach without a user action. The six network findings are fetch calls in js/background.js at lines 63, 82, and 96, js/popup.js at line 39, js/sidePanel.js at line 362, and js/weather.js at line 49. Those files line up with a background worker, a popup, a side panel, and a weather widget. The endpoints include api.gameograf.com and gameograf.com, which belong to the publisher's own domain, plus youtube.com and www.blogger.com for media, and chat.openai.com for an AI chat side panel.
The 49 IoCs do not add a hijack story. Most are malformed fragments such as 0i.gn, ao.it, bg.mp, ke.td, ý.nl, sidepanel.open, and sidepaneltoggle.is. Those read like property chains or sliced strings from minified UI code. A browser hijacker would normally leave a search redirect domain or a query template in the manifest or code. None is present. A credential stealer would show cookie access or login-domain targets such as facebook.com or paypal.com. None is present. A proxyware package would show relay or peer code. None is present.
Nor is there an obfuscated payload to explain. Obfuscation findings are zero. Malware-signature findings are zero. The 43 code-smell findings are the low-severity JavaScript patterns that fire on ordinary popup and side-panel code: event handlers, string building, and fetch wrappers. The absence of host permissions is the key limiter. Without host permissions, js/background.js cannot silently read arbitrary tabs, and js/sidePanel.js cannot inject into a login page. A cross-origin fetch would still need the receiving server to allow it. The own-domain endpoint api.gameograf.com is consistent with wallpaper metadata, weather, or account features.
The strongest counterargument is chat.openai.com plus the three fetch calls in js/background.js. A skeptic could read that as a side channel for user data. But chat.openai.com is a public AI service, not an unknown collector, and it appears beside the publisher's own API and ordinary media hosts. The fetch calls sit in feature files for a weather widget and a side panel. There is no malware rule, no obfuscation, no secret finding, and no host permission that would let the extension pull page content into those calls. If more evidence existed, it would be a code path that reads tab URLs or page text and sends it to an endpoint outside gameograf.com. That code path is not in this scan.
The finding volume is the part that misleads. A 98-item total sounds large until you separate six fetch locations from 49 IoC fragments and 43 code-smell matches. The extension has a small user base, a publisher domain that matches the developer address, and no declared permissions. The evidence points to scanner noise around a wallpaper tool, not to a browser hijacker or data thief.
Key Reasons
- No malware signatures, no obfuscation, and no tool-poisoning findings across the scan.
- The six fetch findings sit in normal feature files: js/background.js, js/popup.js, js/sidePanel.js, and js/weather.js.
- Named endpoints are the publisher's own domain, known media hosts, and chat.openai.com, with no search redirect or credential-target domains.
- The manifest declares no permissions and no host permissions, limiting silent access to tabs or login pages.
- The 49 IoCs are mostly malformed fragments such as 0i.gn, ao.it, bg.mp, ke.td, and sidepanel.open.
False Positive Considerations
- 49 IoCs are mostly malformed domain fragments and minified property chains.
- 43 code-smell findings are generic JavaScript patterns with low severity.
- No malware-signature or obfuscation findings matched.
- Network fetches align with wallpaper, weather, and side-panel features and target the publisher's own API plus known services.
Reviewed 2026-10-17; recommended action: suppress false positive; model confidence 86%.
