Is Elden Ring Live Wallpapers safe?

Elden Ring Live Wallpapers replaces your Chrome new tab with looping HD video wallpaper. The extension declares no host permissions and no API permissions, so it gets no standing access to the sites you visit. The network endpoints that belong to an actual service are gameograf.com and api.gameograf.com, which is the developer's own domain, plus www.blogger.com and chat.openai.com.

The scanner logged six fetch calls: js/background.js at lines 63, 82 and 96, js/popup.js at line 39, js/sidePanel.js at line 362 and js/weather.js at line 49. If those were shipping your browsing history to a rented server, that would be the story. The file names line up with features the extension advertises. js/weather.js pulls a forecast for the weather widget. background.js talks to api.gameograf.com for the wallpaper itself. The single OpenAI endpoint in the whole extension is chat.openai.com, a service you would recognise by name.

Most of the finding count is scanner noise. The 63 flagged indicators include things like sidepaneltoggle.is, sidepanel.open, gó.om and 4r.pr. Those are pieces of JavaScript function names and mangled strings that got mistaken for web addresses, not servers anyone can register. The 45 low-severity code-style findings fire on ordinary JavaScript. No malware signature matched in any file, and nothing in the code was found deliberately hidden.

What is left is a new tab page that pulls video, weather and a side panel from its author's own servers.

Publisher identity, store signals, distribution reach, and warning signals used for context. Treat this as supporting evidence, not a clean bill of health.

Chrome does not expose the same publisher verification data as IDE stores, so this score is deliberately conservative.

AI Security Review

Evidence context: threat category none; evidence quality moderate.

The endpoint list is where this case is won or lost. Only four hosts in it belong to anyone: gameograf.com and api.gameograf.com (the developer's own domain, matching the listed developer contact [email protected]), www.blogger.com and chat.openai.com. The rest are not registrable services. Entries like sidepaneltoggle.is and sidepanel.open are camelCase identifiers split at a dot. gó.om and ᑗ.ug carry accented and non-Latin characters that fall out of parsing minified strings. 4r.pr, 8z.sn, ke.td and no.ge are two-character fragments with country-code-looking suffixes. None of these resolve to infrastructure an attacker would control, and none of them appear in a fetch finding. They are the 63 IoCs, and they are the entire volume of the report.

The six medium network findings sit at js/background.js:63, js/background.js:82, js/background.js:96, js/popup.js:39, js/sidePanel.js:362 and js/weather.js:49. That file set describes the product: a background worker that pulls wallpaper manifests, a popup, a side panel, and a weather widget. A fetch in js/weather.js:49 is the forecast call. A wallpaper that streams video has to fetch something from api.gameograf.com. The findings name no exfiltration host and no domain that fails to match a feature in the listing.

The remaining 45 findings are low-severity code-smell rules. No malware signature matched in any file. Nothing was flagged obfuscated, no secrets were found, no dependency or tool-poisoning findings fired, and the manifest produced no analysis findings at all. That combination is the profile of a normal, partly bundled JavaScript codebase run through a scanner tuned to flag anything.

The strongest counterargument is chat.openai.com. A wallpaper extension talking to OpenAI's chat endpoint is odd, and a skeptic would read it as a channel for sending user text off the machine. Two things weigh against that. The destination is a recognized OpenAI host, so the traffic is visible to the user and to OpenAI, which is an exposed way to exfiltrate data. And the extension produced no obfuscation and no secret findings, so there is no attempt to hide a payload or a key. What would settle it is the code block around js/sidePanel.js:362, the fetch nearest the only OpenAI endpoint, to confirm it carries a user-typed wallpaper prompt. Running the extension with network capture for a few minutes would answer that directly.

The second counterargument is identity. The name uses a FromSoftware trademark and the developer field is an email address rather than a company. That is a branding and attribution problem. The same email domain runs gameograf.com and api.gameograf.com, both of which show up in the code, so the publisher's identity lines up with its own infrastructure.

Key Reasons

  • No malware signatures, obfuscation, secrets, dependency or tool-poisoning findings across the scanned files
  • The only resolvable endpoints are the developer's own domain (gameograf.com, api.gameograf.com), www.blogger.com and chat.openai.com
  • Six medium network findings in js/background.js, js/popup.js, js/sidePanel.js and js/weather.js match advertised features (wallpaper feed, side panel, weather widget)
  • 63 IoCs are domain-shaped fragments from minified JS such as sidepaneltoggle.is, sidepanel.open, gó.om and 4r.pr
  • 45 of the 114 findings are low-severity code-smell rules on bundled JavaScript

False Positive Considerations

  • IoC extractor misreading property access chains and minified identifiers as domains (sidepaneltoggle.is, sidepanel.open, gó.om, 4r.pr)
  • Medium-severity network findings firing on ordinary fetch calls in feature scripts
  • Low-severity code-smell YARA rules matching routine bundled JavaScript
  • Accented and non-Latin character fragments (gó.om, ᑗ.ug) surfacing as network endpoints

Reviewed 2026-10-26; recommended action: suppress false positive; model confidence 80%.
