Notepad++ Plugins
Notepad++ editor plugins
Notepad++ plugins are a small ecosystem — a few hundred packages — but they run native DLLs inside a desktop process with full user privileges, which is a completely different risk model from sandboxed browser extensions. We track the plugin list and analyze what we can obtain, with emphasis on download sources, binaries, and version drift.
- Native binaries with no sandbox: a malicious plugin is full user-level code execution
- Distribution via third-party sites and bundled installers rather than a curated store
- Long-lived plugins whose maintainership quietly changes
