Is Cristiano Ronaldo Green Flame CR7 Live Wallpaper safe?
This extension swaps your new tab for a Cristiano Ronaldo live wallpaper, and it declares no special permissions and no host permissions. That means it has no sanctioned way to read your history, cookies, bookmarks or the pages you open. The scan did pull one recognisable address out of the files, https://www.netflix.com, alongside a long list of two letter addresses such as sg.cx, 9zt.gg, k.nl and 8d.am.
The finding named XIOC-URL-https://www.netflix.com, plus domain findings like XIOC-DOMAIN-sg.cx, would matter if the extension actually contacted those servers. There is no sign that it does. No code was found making network requests, and the extension holds no permission to send browsing data anywhere. Some of the flagged addresses contain letters that cannot appear in a real domain, such as the accented zayå.fm, so the scanner was reading ordinary text rather than real destinations.
The other flags are code quality warnings that fire on almost any JavaScript file of a decent size. Nothing matched a known malware signature, nothing in the code was packed or hidden to defeat reading it, and the extension asks for nothing beyond drawing a wallpaper. What tripped the scanner was a domain-matching rule pointed at compressed script, which produces exactly this list of short fake addresses.

Evidence context: threat category none; evidence quality moderate.
This extension sells itself as a new tab live wallpaper featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, published at version 1.0.3 under the address [email protected]. The scanned manifest lists no permissions and no host permissions. Without those, there is no API route to read page content, cookies, history, bookmarks or form fields, which removes most of the damage a browser extension is capable of. No manifest findings were produced either, so the new tab override that a wallpaper extension would normally use has neither been confirmed nor ruled out.
Most of the volume is 166 indicator hits, and they read like extractor debris. Titles such as XIOC-DOMAIN-sg.cx, XIOC-DOMAIN-9zt.gg, XIOC-DOMAIN-b.ma, XIOC-DOMAIN-k.nl and XIOC-DOMAIN-fm.no are two and three letter strings of the kind a domain regex pulls out of compressed JavaScript. Two of them carry characters no hostname can legally hold, XIOC-DOMAIN-zayå.fm and a network entry containing a Cyrillic glyph, which shows the matcher was reading prose or variable names rather than addresses. One entry is a real site, XIOC-URL-https://www.netflix.com. Netflix is legitimate, and nothing in the manifest explains why a wallpaper extension would name it.
There are no malware signatures, no obfuscation, no network findings, and nothing in the dependency, secret or tool-poisoning buckets. The remaining 20 findings are low-severity code-quality rules, the kind that fire on any bundled or minified file. Nothing here shows data leaving the browser, a search engine being swapped, or a remote payload being fetched. The complete absence of a custom search domain, a query-template URL or an outbound request is the detail that matters most, because those are the mechanisms a new tab extension would use if it were monetising users.
The case against this reading rests on category and publisher. Celebrity-themed new tab wallpapers are a common monetization vehicle, the publisher is a disposable Gmail address with no other identity, and the new tab override was never inspected, so we cannot see what renders when a user opens a tab. That gap is real, and it is why this is not a clean bill of health. The details that would support a hijack are all missing though: no custom search domain, no query template, no host permissions, no request code, and a user count of zero. Reading the new tab HTML and the script that consumes the short domain list would settle it. If any of those flagged domains turns up as an actual request target, the classification should change to a browser hijack.
Key Reasons
- 166 IoCs are two-letter fragments lifted from minified JavaScript, several containing characters that cannot appear in a hostname (zayå.fm)
- No malware signatures, no obfuscation, no network findings and no tool-poisoning findings
- Manifest declares no permissions and no host permissions, so there is no route to cookies, history or page content
- Remaining 20 findings are low-severity code-smell rules that fire on ordinary bundled JavaScript
- The only concrete domain referenced is https://www.netflix.com, a legitimate site with no request code behind it
False Positive Considerations
- XIOC short-domain fragments extracted from minified JavaScript (sg.cx, 9zt.gg, k.nl, 8d.am)
- Non-ASCII characters inside extracted 'domains' (zayå.fm), proving regex artifacts rather than hostnames
- 20 low-severity code-smell findings that fire on any non-trivial JavaScript file
- Finding volume inflated by 166 medium-severity IoCs while malware-signature, network and obfuscation buckets are empty
